Longest Zipline to rise in Oroquieta City

MANILA, Philippines – The Oroquieta City government in Misamis Occidental sets P6 million fund for a zip line project that would boost the tourism industry in the area.

City Mayor Jason Almonte said the two-way 1.1 kilometer zip line will be the longest in Southeast Asia so far.

The project will connect two villages at the foot of Mt. Malindang, with Aboitiz Builders tasked at constructing the main towers of the structure.

Oroquieta Town Center

The local Government of Oroquieta City conceptualized the construction of a multi-use one stop shop facility for business and tourists. This facility would not only cater to the local needs of Oroquieta City but as well as for the neighboring municipalities. This project is the first business and community facility being initiated in the Misamis Occidental by a local government unit (LGU).

Project Objectives:

• To construct an integrated and multi-use business center anchoring on the community mall, terminal and civic center facilities.
• To provide a sufficient business and community facility, wherein the general public shall have convenient and regular access for business and recreational needs.
• To create a regional landmark facility for Oroquieta City.
• To attract people to the Town Center, to ensure that they stay longer enjoy the experience and return again.

Ship gets stuck in Talisay reef

CEBU, Philippines - A roll-on roll-off ship ran aground Wednesday night in Pungaton Reef, barangay Pooc, Talisay City.

VG Shipping Lines, based on the initial investigation conducted by PO2 Narciso Alforque, left Pier 3 in Cebu City at 8:15 the other night on its way to Oroquieta City but hit a shallow portion of the reef, stranding it.

SPO1 Oliver Dacua, duty desk officer of the Talisay City Police Station, said chief mate Rodrigo Buligan was in control of the ship while the ship's captain, Rolando Medija, was taking his meal.

Medija allegedly reported the incident only after several hours later when the city's Bantay Dagat task force, Fishermen Sea and Ecological Care (Fiseca), discovered the unmoving ship at 5 a.m. yesterday.

While all its eight passengers and some crew were allowed to go, VG Shipping Lines was being held by the Philippine Coast Guard pending the investigation of the incident.

City Councilor Bernard Odilao, chairman on council committee on environment, said the city will send professional divers to assess the damage to the reef.

"We will be doing the same procedures (like we did with MV Majuro). So right now, our divers will check the site to assess the damage," Odilao said.

MV Majuro, a Chinese cargo vessel, ran aground in Lagundi Reef, the city's then alive marine sanctuary, last March 2009.

The city charged the ship captain with violation of the environmental laws before the City Prosecutor's Office.

The complaint was dismissed however after the city government failed to submit proofs that would substantiate its allegations.

And while divers consider the Lagundi Reef a future dive destination, the Pungaton is reported to be in a sad state.

Diver Alfie Fernandez of the Knight-Stewards of the Sea, Inc. (Seaknights) said the Pungaton Reef for so many years has been a victim of rampant dynamite fishing, hence, the corals there have been pulverized.

The reef has been declared a marine protected area but the government has not taken steps to restore the site, said Fernandez.

Talisay is a coastal city whose many residents still depend on fishing for their source of revenue.

The MV VG RORO 1 had its first dock in Oroquieta City Port, Canubay yesterday morning April 29, 2011. Actually it was expected to dock last April 28 but the ship got stuck somewhere in Talisay City, Cebu.

Ozamiz Airport

After 14 years of closure, the Ozamiz Airport is finally open last 2007 to serve the misamisnon and other neighboring provinces like zamboanga del sur and lanao del norte. The Ozamiz airport was closed in 1998 after Philippine Airlines stop their operation due to runway issues that could not accommodate wide bodied aircraft and jetliners of Philippine airlines.

After major renovation of the airport and extension of runway, the Philippine Airlines is finally back together with Cebu Pacific and Pal Express.

Oroquieta City PORT

Base on the pictures, I think the port is about 50-60% finished. I heard nga continuous daw ang construction ani. I dont know their target date of completion but I can sense nga murag mahuman ni before the year 2010 ends or maybe early 2011. I hope that our city government will really focus on this project kay dako gyud kaayo ni ug tabang para sa progress sa city.

There are rumors nga ang George and Peter Lines ang mo serve sa atong city and a direct barge from oroquieta-cdo vice versa... If tinuod man gani that's a big "WOW"

6cyclemind concert in Oroquieta City

I know that this is kinda obsolete but i just want to share it with you guys that they had their first ever concert in the city last June '09 in cooperation with tanduay. It was held at peace resort. Special guest are the two viva hotbabes namely hazel cabrera and zarah i forgot her last name......

Finally, after like how many years.... the old pantalan was now rehabilitated. Clap! Clap! Clap! I dont know kung kinsa ni nga project but many thanks to the person behind this beautification project! This would surely be an addition to the city's attraction..

Dili nata mahadlok mo laag sa pantalan kay karun nindot na ang agian. A lot of people na ang nag fishing dnhe and take note. They dont use the old type sa pag fishing kundi fishing rod na! Sosyal!

2. Bianos Pizza



Alberto Bianos invades Oroquieta City. It is located near Mercury Drug store or should I say the previous location of RMA cable. For me its the best pizza so far in Oroquieta. Hahaha kay wa may lain pud pizza sa city. Oopss naa diay before si kirbys but i dont know now if naa pa ba coz the last time nga mo order unta mi kay not available daw. Their reason was wala daw ang mo luto. So back to bianos pizza, I guess you should try because its very delicious and affordable as well. The price starts at 90pesos to 200, depending on the size of the pizza.





For me I would recommend their "chicken terriyaki pizza". It really taste good!!!

and ohh before i forget mo deliver pud diay sila within the city for a minimum purchase of 2 pizza man guro. Hmmm cool huh! heheheh


3. Smith's Restobar

This is the newest Restobar in town located beside the residence of our city mayor. Hmmm all i can say is nice ang ambiance. The food is nice but the service sucks big time! sorry but mao lang jud amo ika sulti .. serving time is very very dugay. Siguro it will take 15-30mins before ma serve ang food. But all in all its the best place for yuppies to socialize...









This Resto offers 1 shot tequilla for 1 peso but sad to say its for ladies only!!! hahahaha
